 JUNE-JULY 2022 EXPOSURE

A pandemic later, the team has returned to Barangay Bago. After transitioning to a mass of challenges of implementing projects remotely, Team Bago 2023 has now come back to re-immerse, re-assess, and help implement the Bago health projects face-to-face.

As of July 2022, these are the recent updates per prioritized community health problem:

CHP #1: BAGO ANTI-HYPERTENSION PROGRAMME

The team went on a house-to-house visit to re-assess the pre-hypertensive and hypertensive individuals in their masterlist— a database of individuals whose blood pressure was taken on two separate occasions on 2019 and classified accordingly based on the JNC 7 guidelines.

Blood Pressure Monitoring Cards have also been distributed to pre-hypertensive and hypertensive individuals. This is a personal record of pre-hypertensive and hypertensive individuals so that they may be able to monitor their blood pressure— more specifically, they can keep track of their systolic and diastolic blood pressure, their compliance to medications and hypertension/stroke-related symptoms, in the event should there be any.

Lastly, a series of health teaching on hypertension (e.g. stages, causes, risk factors, management, complications and medication compliance) has been conducted simultaneously whilst monitoring the residents’ blood pressure.

CHP #2: SANITATION FOR ALL (SANaALL) PROGRAMME

Health teaching on good hygiene practices has been conducted this exposure–  with the emphasis of acquiring diseases which complicates as diarrhea and thereafter dehydration, when one does not adhere to the former.

Met with the sanitary inspector and discussed on evaluation plans on toilet facilities. Though Barangay Bago has already been declared as a Zero Open Defecation / Open Defecation-free barangay, the team plans to evaluate each toilet facility face-to-face in the next exposure.

CHP #3: BAGO EMERGENCY RESPONSE SYSTEM

One of the biggest projects of the team in order to address the issues on the Bago Emergency Response System is to train the residents themselves on First Aid and Basic Life Support. In collaboration with the MDRRMO - Sindangan, the team conducted a 2-day First Aid and BLS training at the Bago covered court.

The two-day training was  composed of two sessions. In the morning, the medical students gave a lecture on First-Aid Training (Day 1) and Basic Life Support (Day 2). In the afternoon, the MDRRMO spearheaded the return demonstration on First Aid (Day 1) and Basic Life Support (Day 2). In addition to this, the MDRRMO, led a dry run– in which an emergency scenario was simulated to assess the residents’ knowledge and skills in response to the respective situation.
